Why do I need to have a competent person?
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 state:
“Every employer shall appoint one or more competent persons to assist him in undertaking the measures he needs to take to comply with the requirements and prohibitions imposed upon him by or under the relevant statutory provisions and by Part II of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997.”
What do we provide?

- Review existing method statements and risk assessments
- Provide help with how to complete tendering questionnaires
- Carry out a training needs analysis and review training certificates
- 6 monthly review meetings
- Information on changes in legislation, news, etc.
- Advice on the phone when you need it!
The Law requires all employers to appoint someone as the Competent Person for health and safety. Indeed, insurers assume that they already comply with this requirement.
