Display Screen Equipment Assessments

There is a legal requirement (the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992) to conduct a specific display screen equipment assessments for employees classed as “users” of display screen equipment.

Employees meet this classification of “user” if they meet the following criteria:

  • They use the display screen equipment on a daily basis; and
  • They use the display screen equipment for an hour or more at a time; and
  • They could not do their job without the display screen equipment

The display screen equipment assessments should cover:

  • The screen
  • The keyboard
  • The mouse
  • The software
  • The furniture (desk, chair etc.)
  • The environment (heating, lighting etc.)
